* What is a Hiv Test :
HIV stands for Human Immunodeficiency Virus. This virus weakens a person’s immune system by destroying important cells that fight disease and infection. If HIV is not treated, it can lead to AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome). There is currently no effective cure for HIV.
The virus can be transmitted through contact with infected blood, semen or vaginal fluids. Many people get this virus through sharing needles, syringes while using drugs or vaginal, anal or oral sex.
* What are the Symptoms of Hiv infection :
The disease is usually asymptomatic until it progresses to AIDS. AIDS symptoms include weight loss, fever or night sweats, fatigue and recurrent infections. But in some cases within few weeks of HIV infection, flu-like symptoms such as fever, sore throat and fatigue can occur. No cure exists for AIDS, but strict adherence to antiretroviral regimens (ARVs), can slow down the disease’s progress as well as & prevent secondary infection. Vaccines for HIV are under trial, but no effective vaccine has been developed till date.
* Should I get myself tested for HIV if I don’t have any risk factors :
Many HIV-positive people are unaware that they are infected with the virus. less than 1% of the sexually active urban population had been tested and this proportion is even lower in other populations. The only way to know your HIV status is to get tested. Knowing your status gives you powerful information to keep you and your family/partner healthy. Everyone between the ages of 15 to 65 needs to be tested for HIV. Testing post-exposure is recommended immediately and then at 3.weeks , 6.weeks, 3.months, and 6.months intervals. People with certain risk factors should get tested more often. All pregnant people should get tested for HIV, so they can take steps to stay healthy and protect their baby.
* Do I need to go the lab for Hiv Test :
